It was a pleasure to see the The Rt Hon Thérèse Coffey, Secretary of State at the Department for Work and Pensions, and the Rt Hon Jo Churchill, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (at the time of the visit) visiting the low-carbon greenhouse we developed in East Anglia.
The greenhouses which utilise a world-first energy model of taking heat from nearby waste water treatment works and utilising that via heat pumps to provide heat for growing tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers.
The ministerial visits were as part of the Government’s interest in producing more food within the UK, considering that currently greater than 70% of our tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers are imported, frequently from drought stressed parts of the globe.
